In October 2016 the Queensland Government released a vessel specification and invitation to submit tenders for the design and construction of a prototype patrol vessel for the Queensland Police Services.
McDonald Smith Marine Designers teamed up with Far North Fabrications in Cairns for the submission. A critical requirement was for the proposed vessel to be based on an existing and proven design, and the hull and machinery of “Skedaddle”, designed by MSMD and built by FNF and now successfully operating out of Cairns, would serve as basis for the proposal.
Of aluminium construction, the vessel will be capable of a service speed of over 30kts, 40kts sprint speed, range of 400nm, with commercial registration to carry 14 persons up to 200nm from the coast.
The design was fully conforming, with a concession permitted for length, which increases from 15m to 18.5m.
